Use jumbo hot rollers and roll your hair under not up. Even if you want the curls to flip up, roll it under. Also do not brush out, but use the blow dryer on low to gently blow it out. Also blow it out bending over (upside down), then fluff it when you raise up. Never use a brush on it. I would also invest in some strong body building mousse or spray wax. I like the Paul Mitchell spray wax. Of course still spray hairspray on it.
If you have the time, roll it on jumbo sponge type rollers when it is wet and sleep in them. If your hair dries like that the curl will last longer. Same thing roll under and blow it out with the hair dryer.
1thanks lisa!! but sounds like a lot of work.
2Rollers definitely work well. I use a smaller barrel curling iron - even when I want big voluptuous curls - and then comb through my hair with my fingers when I am done. Then I hit it with some hairspray. My hair is a few inches past the tops of my shoulders and I would say it takes like 20-25 minutes minutes to do. That's on a dry head of hair, though.
I love this look, too. Too much work to do everyday.. but that just makes it all the more special when you get a chance to do it.
3Actually it's not. I am very into getting dressed as quickly as possible. It takes me about 10 minutes to do this -- if you don't count the makeup time. I do this everyday too. I plug in the rollers when I put on makeup. They take 2 minutes to heat up. I take longer to put on makeup
I blow dry my hair like normal and brush out the tangles. So I start with straight hair. Then I roll it under using 10-12 of the rollers. This takes just a few minutes. Honestly
it does. Maybe in the beginning it might take a little longer until you get used to what you are doing. Leave them in for a few minutes then take them out, bend over, blow it with the
hairdryer, stand back up spray it with the wax and fluff then lightly spray with the hairspray. It takes longer for me to blow dry my wet hair than it does for me to roll it. These are the
rollers I use:

Really it's not. It takes me about 10-15 minutes. Blow drying my hair takes the longest of the time. I do this everyday.

very weird
6thank you girl!!
7i use the babyliss ceramic curling tongs with a nice big barrell. the small barrells make my hair too corkscrewy
8I used to be a hairstylist, and this look was the most requested. It does take take I wont lie to you. Youo do have to use a curling iron. It should be at least 1 1/2 inch barrel. Start with dry hair parted the way you want it. Take medium sized sections and wrap it around the curling iron covering the whole barrel. (not just one spot with all the hair around it) The 2 best salon secrets are that when we curl the hair we alternate curling it toward the face and then away. the parts by your face should be curled away from face. also, we don't curl from the bottom and roll up. we start mid-shaft, ccurling it and barely opening the tongs to slide it to grab more hair. It sounds more difficult than it is, and you really only have to do it on the top part. At first it may take awhile, but then it gets fast. my hair is longer than hers and it takes me 15 minutes to do. oh, and a caution-always put something in your hair before youo curl so it doesn't fry, and stays. at the salon we sprayed matrix freeze trix hairspray lightly on each layer.
9yea i agree with everyone, you should use a curling iron or u could try sleeping in rollers and see how it turns out the next day
